Summer 2 2023

4.07.23

A quick final update just to say thankyou for all your support this year - it has been a great year and I have already got to know the children so well. Their hard work has been wonderful to see and keep an eye on this page for updates regarding September.

Until then enjoy your summer!

17.07.23

I cannot believe we are into our final full week of the year!

We have had an amazing time with a coach from Trent Bridge to come in and teach the class some catching, throwing and batting skills throughout the day on Monday. They were so excited - please check out the Gallery for more images of the day.

We will continue to practice our written methods this week to ensure we are ready for our September return. We will build our fluency skills around column addition, subtraction, 2 x 1 and 3 x 1 multiplication and also our short division techniques.

Hopefully we will finish off our current class book - The Boy In The Dress. We have really enjoyed it and hopefully have the chance to watch it before the end of term.

We will continue with our final French lesson on Ice Creams and finish our unit based on Sound in Science.

The classroom will begin a bit of a makeover this week in preparation for September - so lots of tidying and organising before we finish next Tuesday!

Update 05.07.23

We had an amazing time at the Space Centre last week so please have a look at the pictures in the gallery section of the website.

This week we have the opportunity to take part in a Rugby taster session on Thursday so please remember P.E kits.

We have completed writing up our Charlie and the Chocolate Factory narratives and have also completed a number of tasks on shape and angles within maths.

Our Maya unit has continued - looking at what foods they ate and also some of the interesting rituals they carried out. Later in the week we will find out about the decline of the Maya and try to work out why this happened.

Update 25.06.23

Thank you all so much for your support during our sports day afternoon on Friday. It was amazing to see so many of you there and I hope you enjoyed it as much as we all did as staff and pupils! The parents' races didn't let us down either!

A reminder that the Space Centre visit for Robin's class is this Wednesday 27th June. We will continue preparation for this by completing a number of activities based on Space in the next few days.

*A huge well done for everyone in Year 4 for completing their multiplication check over the course of the past week- all the children worked so hard and were not flustered at all when completing the set of random questions!*

In summer 2, our lessons will be based around Charlie and the chocolate factory.

We will focus on immersing the children within the unit by giving them the chance to create their own chocolate bars and then we will be writing a descriptive piece of work based on the story using a wide range of description and to entertain the reader!

This unit will also cover our Artwork, where we will look at Kerry Darlington's sweets and treats painting. The children will have a chance to create pieces of artwork using scissors in the style of Matisse and focus on specific parts of the artwork using different sketching techniques.

Our History topic will be based on the Mayans and we will initially be finding out about where the civilisation was and then more on the way they lived their lives.

In Maths, we will continue to use the white rose scheme of work. This half terms our focus will be based around 2d shapes and their properties. We will also have the chance to look at different types of graphs and charts and be able to interpret a range of data from them. We will end the academic year by revising key written methods and continue to develop our fluency of times tables up to 12 x 12.

P.E will be continue to be every Friday afternoon and based around athletics in preparation for our sports day. We will also have specific playground activities on Monday and Tuesday breaktimes to support further learning from an external P.E provider.

In computing, we will have the chance to experiment with a free trial of Rodocodo (similar to scratch) where the children will have an opportunity to develop their coding skills. We will also continue to develop our touch typing skills by accessing typingclub.com. The children have really enjoyed this so far and seeing their WPM (words per minute) improve dramatically!

In French, we have looked at animals this half term by following our scheme of work through Language Angels. We will finish the summer by looking at the unit based on Ice Cream. Yum!
