Mathematics is a creative and highly interconnected discipline that has been developed over centuries. It is essential to everyday life, critical to science, technology and engineering, and necessary for financial literacy and most forms of employment.
A high-quality mathematics education therefore provides a foundation for understanding the world, the ability to reason mathematically, an appreciation of the beauty and power of mathematics, and a sense of enjoyment and curiosity about the subject. It is taught in classrooms where children are supported, guided and encouraged to achieve their maximum potential in challenging but achievable lessons.
Curriculum Design
• Our maths curriculum is mapped out by the White Rose Hub schemes of work and is assessed using NFER tests once a term. Teachers use a variety of resources to enable pupils to be successful and are encouraged to use guidance from White Rose and NCETM.
• In all year groups, lesson content is carefully designed to follow the ‘mastery’ approach to learning, to enable students to develop a secure and ‘deep’ grasp of both arithmetic skills and reasoning abilities.
• With mixed year group classes – the scheme of work is reviewed annually, dependent on class sizes and groupings.
